The structural design of a linear motor uses a cylindrical rod – that is, a plunger – instead of a piston, and this plunger moves under the pressure of a power fluid that is supplied through a system of valves. It returns to its initial position due to a coordinated weight or an external force. Having performed the direct movement, the plunger sinks in a cylinder tube.
Structural and Functional Features of the Plunger Mechanism
This design eliminates the need to chrome-plate the internal cavities and to use O-rings. But the valve system needs additional protection: release of excessive pressure by draining a portion of the power fluid back to the hydraulic tank.
A hydraulic plunger motor makes it possible to reach an impressive lifting force for an excavator or bulldozer, which is amply fed by this motor with hydraulic energy.
There is also an undeniable bonus with regard to the following parameters:
- strength,
- capacity,
- wear resistance,
- durability.
Any cylinder profile can be configured, including the body height from ultra-low to high. &mdash
Having relatively small dimensions, the plunger devices operate with high efficiency and allow different force outputs to be generated, from low to rather significant ones. Virtually any types of supports are suitable for fastening – flange, trunnion, eye bolt, or ball joint.
Where Are Plungers Used?
Unfortunately, the simple and reliable structure can move only in a linear and unidirectional manner, which is why it is used in a case when a single force – compressive – has to be applied to the load. However, some models are equipped with a return spring that makes the design more complex structurally – this is the matter of feasibility.
Plunger mechanisms are indispensable:
- in high-pressure presses, in high-power lifts,
- in axial-plunger and radial-plunger machines,
- in pumps.
Domestic manufacturer Research & Production Enterprise HydroCube offers quality models of hydraulic plunger cylinders for industrial equipment and any special-purpose equipment: road, construction, lifting, and agricultural. We’ll equip your heavy-duty plant with a dependable lifting capacity that will not fail at huge and even extreme radial loads. We will select the optimal configuration and protection of the hydraulic unit and, if necessary, develop a structural design as per nonstandard specifications.
