The structural design of a linear motor uses a cylindrical rod – that is, a plunger – instead of a piston, and this plunger moves under the pressure of a power fluid that is supplied through a system of valves. It returns to its initial position due to a coordinated weight or an external force. Having performed the direct movement, the plunger sinks in a cylinder tube.
Structural and Functional Features of the Plunger Mechanism
This design eliminates the need to chrome-plate the internal cavities and to use O-rings. But the valve system needs additional protection: release of excessive pressure by draining a portion of the power fluid back to the hydraulic tank.

Unfortunately, the simple and reliable structure can move only in a linear and unidirectional manner, which is why it is used in a case when a single force – compressive – has to be applied to the load. However, some models are equipped with a return spring that makes the design more complex structurally – this is the matter of feasibility.
